Introducing: Internet Tabs
Lots of late nights.
Here’s a little segment called INTERNET TABS; things I want, need, can’t stop thinking about, possibly bought or already own, but more than likely, usually, left to rot, amongst my internet tabs. Let me unleash this beast on to you. Let’s GOOOOO.
CLOTHES
My sister and I had an experience in Italy a few months back, where we both simultaneously needed to get out of the clothes we were in or we’d cry. We felt - at the same time - that we were dressing like two little girls despite having both pushed babies out, three months apart. Ha! We put it down to the overstimulation, that being overseas can bring on one’s brain, especially postpartum. We were both studying style on the streets of Rome, as if for the first time, wondering if we’d lost our sense of it or perhaps never had it to begin with.
Desert Vintage brings me a lot of assurance around how to dress, along with this substack Habiter (particularly loved DAPHNE JAVITCH, ASHLEY MOUBAYED & SANDEEP SALTER . Take-away here is a good outfit lies somewhere between throw on/easy/reliable basics & something a little interesting or well-constructed that is vintage/designer. Needless to say the very aloof & ugly world of Ebay is starting to siren me. My mum finally found the perfect jeans and then got paint on them, and loved them so much she bought them again - and now, we are all buying them! No more saggy-ass jeans which apparently is more common than I thought amongst AGOLDE, citizens of humanity, frame… oh, it’s a shame (sorry I had to). Then looking for the perfect t.shirt which might be in the way of this Car Tee by Flore Flore after loads of research born out of a personal wrath towards every expensive & inexpensive t.shirt that I own. A skirt I am going to buy to end all of my awkward mini skirt moments. And a perfect pointelle from Leset. Building on bed wear, these Comme Si boxer sets are cutesy woo for spring aperitivo with these porselli metallic flats? Ughhhhh.
I discovered Federico Jimenez jewellery this week and think these are SO chic. It’s definitely a generational, immigrant thing in my family but sterling silver has always been classified as (sorry to say) tacky. Like everything, it’s political, what your jewellery says about your status yadayada. If I’m thinking for myself however, I love good-quality sterling silver. But if we are talking gold, then I want everything from prounis. I feel like this brand was made for little, but actually grown-up, old me. Is it ok that I’m telling you everything that I want? Does this make for good reading?
OK, READING
I love adding to my baby’s library and am so excited to start reading my very own special particular private and personal cat by Sandol Warburg to him. The writing and illustrations are great. I loved this article by the Washington Post that then made all of my internet tab pursuits feel meaningless and superficial, even though at times they feel like a portal into the person I want to be. The round up of advice is true luxury is away from your phone and computer - duh.
But when I was on my phone and computer this week, I loved reading this article by Tess Sullivan on Diane Keaton and the art of dressing for oneself (note to self), this (gearing up for my euro antique flea spree, whenever that may be) and this substack all to do with jeans. Oh, and THIS substack is gold. Claudia Flemmings ‘The Last Course’ arrived in the mail and I’m looking forward to baking her poppy seed lemon butter biscuits & fingerprint cookies…will let you know how it goes.
HOME
My mum gifted us a vintage murano pendant for our living room and we are absolutely in love with it. Now that I’m insatiable for murano, I can’t get enough of this sea green murano mirror $$$ and secon.di added some stunning murano sconces that I would love to add to my collection of (failed) lights like these and these, if given the chance. We went to the Southern Highlands to visit my aunty last weekend and I did end up buying an OG splatterware serving bowl, similar to this one. And then despite my personal vendetta towards the upkeep of white bed linen, I still would like to update our room with some tekla broderie anglaise bedding - I just don’t think I’m too much of a colour person when it comes to the bedroom.
Tom & I impromptu knocked out some old cabinetry in our very old kitchen forfeiting storage space for some head space. We have some ugly slate tiles that need to go next. We are in the process of renovating and these photos have elements that feel approachable to working with our current space:
And I don’t know where this picture is from but I think about it often and would like to find a chaise with a teak frame to reupholster in a similar fashion for our studio.
BEAUTY
Not much to report here, except that I am IN LOVE with this Chanel lip and cheek balm. This is in 3 Vital Beige colourway and perfect for lip and cheek, as is promised… super creamy, blendable and not too sticky or oily and makes me look alive. Not usually a Chanel beauty girly but I’m converted. Also usually a bare nails kind of lady but went for my classic red look with a sparkly, unexpected nail. Made me feel young and free.
FOOD
We had our Spring Festival up at McCarrs this past Sunday and the donuts were out of this world. Plus my sister Tia (who owns Crema) made a phenomenal olive oil cake with mulberry glaze for us (pictured below), that was obviously DIVINE. Swooooon yourselves.
Happy Thursday,
Claudia xx
